An Interview With Dr. Kalus, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon In Charleston

1. What is Arnica montana, I have heard that it reduces swelling and bruising?

Arnica Montana is an herbal homeopathic medicine that indeed helps reduce bruising and swelling. I recommend it to all my facial plastic surgery patients and my liposuction patients.

2. What about Bromelain? Does this help with swelling and bruising as well?

Bromelain is not usually prescribed for operative swelling and bruising, but is sometimes used after injuries.

3. What is a mini tummy tuck, and when is it better than a regular tummy tuck?

A mini tummy tuck can be indicated in a patient with more muscle laxity but less skin laxity wherein a smaller incision may be required.

4. Is there a difference in the size of the scars between the mini and the full tummy tuck?

Yes. The mini tummy tuck should have a significantly shorter scar.

5. Is pregnancy after a tummy tuck safe?

Yes. Pregnancy after a tummy tuck is safe.

6. Is it better to do a tummy tuck before or after pregnancy?

If possible, it would be better to undergo any tummy or other body contouring surgery after pregnancy since much of the benefit of surgery my be lost, if one or more pregnancies follow surgery.
