An Interview With Dr. Berman, A Qualified Plastic Surgeon In Fort Lauderdale

Are tummy tucks painful?

Tummy tucks are not painful---there are no experiences of "knife stabbing pain." Patients often complain of soreness and find that there is discomfort moving around. They find that there is tightness to the belly----the muscles have been tightened to give a more shapely figure.

Will weight gain after a tummy tuck affect the results?

If a patient gains a lot of weight, the abdomen will stretch---slowly. The skin will stretch as well.

What is a partial abdominoplasty?

I haven’t heard of a partial abdominoplasty----There is a mini-abdominoplasty. That is an operation where only the abdominal skin is elevated to the belly button and there is minimal muscle tightening.

Will future pegnancy affect the results of a tummy tuck?

I recommend to all potential patients that this procedure should be performed after having children.

Can stretch marks be removed with a tummy tuck?

Most of the women who undergo tummy tucks are thrilled that most of the stretch marks can be removed with the tummy tuck.

How long before I can return to my normal activities?

Usually, patients can return to desk jobs within two weeks of the surgery. I tell patients that they can drive by the end of the week. There is no lifting for a good three weeks and no work-outs for at least 3 to 4 weeks, depending on how well the patient is healing.
