1. Will abdominoplasty tighten up loose skin?
Tummy tucks remove loose skin and advance the remaining skin, so the end result is an improved appearance of the tummy.
2. Can the problems come back after abdominoplasty?
Absolutely. If you don’t maintain your weight, diet, etc or undergo a pregnancy you may experience many of the same symptoms again. This may include loose skin, fat, and weakness or diastasis of the abdominal wall.
3. Is a Tummy Tuck a good way to lose weight?
No, a tummy tuck is not a good way to lose weight. You have to embrace the life style changes necessary to get you the ideal result PRIOR to your surgery. Surgery should never be done to jump- start a weight loss program.
4. Can men benefit from a Tummy Tuck?
Yes men can benefit from tummy tucks. They are a bit different, as their abdominal wall often isn’t affected like we see in women, specifically from pregnancy. That being said, weight loss patients may have stretched out their abdominal walls and may require tightening.
5. Will I feel pain afterwards?
Yes, these tend to be uncomfortable and require pain medicine sometimes for up to two weeks. Everyone responds differently to pain so we would have to individualize your recovery specifically to you and what the surgical plan is.
6. Why do patients seek a tummy tuck?
Tummy tucks address three things specifically of the abdomen: loose skin, fat, and diastasis or weakness of the abdominal wall.
7. Is the recovery time different for full and mini tummy tuck?
The big difference between the two procedures is how much skin is removed. That plays a role in your recovery but both typically involve plication of the abdominal wall which is the part that hurts.
