1. Will abdominoplasty tighten up loose skin?
Definitely. Tummy tucks remove an ellipse (oval) of skin usually greater than 5x20 inches and often much greater.
2. Can the problems come back after abdominoplasty?
Yes, but typically unless a patient becomes morbidly obese or has another pregnancy the improvement is lifelong.
3. Is a Tummy Tuck a good way to lose weight?
No. Most tummy tucks only eliminate 3-5 lbs of tissue, less if it is only done to remove loose skin, and more if there is a large hanging amount of fat.
4. Can men benefit from a Tummy Tuck?
Absolutely. Men have equally excellent results from abdominoplasty and are often the best because they typically have less stretch marks in the area of the lower and central abdomen.
5. Will I feel pain afterwards?
Not much pain, discomfort yes, but with today' s amazing pain medicine' s which include the long lasting Oxycontin, patients are comfortable as long as they use their medicines properly. I get only a few calls per year about pain with tummy tuck because these medicines are so effective.
6. Why do patients seek a tummy tuck?
Because they don' t like the way they look naked as well as in clothing. For women it is often the desire to wear a bathing suit and feel attractive again. For both men and women it is often wanting to look normal in exercise clothing.
7. Is the recovery time different for full and mini tummy tuck?
A mini abdominoplasty is only done if there is loose skin purely in the area below the belly button. As a consequence the mini usually only removes skin, and doesn' t tighten the abdominal wall which is the true cause of most abdominal discomfort after tummy tuck. This results in limited pain compared to a full tummy tuck and usually a faster recovery time.
