1. Where are the incisions made for abdominoplasty?
Tummy tuck incisions are ideally placed in the bikini line. Occasionally, a previous scar location can require the scar to rest a little higher, but this is unusual.
2. What kind of pain medication is used for this surgery?
Oral narcotics are generally necessary for 3-7 days.
3. Is it advisable to do multiple procedures at one time?
It is certainly possible to combine multiple procedures, however there is some increased risk in doing so. For this reason, I do not generally combine a full tummy tuck with other significant procedures.
4. Is it better to lose weight before or after a tummy tuck?
It is much better to lose weight before the tummy tuck. This can improve both the cosmetic results and safety of the procedure.
5. Will my abdominoplasty be paid for by my insurance?
Generally no. There is a procedure called panniculectomy that can be covered by insurance. This involves removing the apron of skin that hangs over the belt if there are symptoms including infection associated with it.
6. How soon will I be able to exercise after my abdominoplasty procedure?
Full unrestricted exercise can begin around 6 weeks after the procedure.
7. When will my stitches be removed after my abdominoplasty procedure?
I use only absorbable sutures and no sutures need be removed.
